Hi To All,
I have just struggled to change the near side suspension arm on my 2005 /55 1.4cc,
During the process I accidently pulled the drive shaft out and lost some gearbox oil I saved most of it in a can ready to put back afterwards(Easy I thinks!!)
Had a look today but I have no idea which of the many bolt is the correct one to remove to refill and check the level.
I've had a look through the maintenance section and can only find a thread on a 206 gti but I am not sure if it's the same on my smaller engine car
Can somebody help?

The gearbox filler/level plug is the one with a square drive socket head facing out towards the wheel arch plastic liner. I'm not sure of the exact size but its slightly bigger than a 1/4" drive and probably needs a special tool for it. I had to grind the end of an old Allen key till it fitted as a make do tool. Its difficult to get at with the liner in place.
The last time I topped up the gearbox oil, I removed the plastic air intake box and battery box (easier than it sounds) and filled through the pull off breather in the top of the gearbox with no mess. If you can guess how much oil you lost then you might not have to remove the plug at all.

Yes I found the plastic piece on top and can put back all I saved now that you have confirmed it is the filler location.
But not really sure how much is on the drive and in the rags I used!!
There appear to be two Allen key bolts heads on the front of the gearbox, I have removed them both and they are very long bolts not what I would expect to find and they were dry as well,
is the one you mention on the front of the gearbox or at the back rear the drive shaft?
Any chance of a photo?

Yes, later updated version MA5 boxes do not have a fill/level plug hole (only drain).
You are supposed to fill from that very breather up top instead, according to Peugeot dealer I spoke.
I use that anyway because it's easier as long as you drain all of it and you know exactly how much fresh oil is going in.

Hi Ok I understand, I have most of the oil that I spilt, and will need to guess the extra that went on the drive if I have added slightly too much will that be a problem?

Honestly the best thing is to throw away the old one and add 1.9 litres of Total BV 75W80 (original Peugeot).
You won't regret it.

If I remember the plug is to the front corner of the gearbox and is a square drive not a hex Allen type. Good advice by V997 just change the whole lot if you can get the plug out to drain it now.

There isn't one for level/drain on later version MA5 boxes.
There is a drain one (also square drive) as said.
I use the top hole anyway (even though I do have level/drain plug) because it's much nicer.
