Hi all,
New to the forum, just got the missus a 206 GLX, one with the nice glass roof. Unfortunately it's had a rough couple of years prior to our purchase but the price was right.
Before I start, I bought this for peanuts, I am a time served tech and bought it no questions asked, no test drive, knowing it needed work before an MOT and this is why it was up for sale, I paid less than scrap for it so I'll never lose on it
Picked it up yesterday and drove it home, it has a terrbile noise from the front, sounded like wheel balance or a tyre, got home and the tyre is bald on the NSF so thought, could be that, its a Kingpin remould too, lovely
Got up this morning and gave the car a full wash and hoover out, loads better, got rid of the sweet packets and hair clips and sorted out small things like putting a new rear wiper blade on, adjusting the boot catch.
The previous owner was not technically minded and said something about ball bearings and gearbox, tyres and oil leak would need doing for its MOT, and she had been quoted £350 to rectify them. Checked the front end for play, both bottom ball joints needed replacing, so they have been done. oil leak is the cam cover, still to be done, but is easy. turns out the OS drive shaft centre joint is clicking, so needs a shaft, no issues there. The radio said it was locked so left the ignition on til it reset and put the code in, sorted.
Next time I got in it the radio was asking for a code again, so I presume there is a fuse issue for memory, and I had noticed yesterday the cigarette lighter doesn't work (didn't charge my phone), but there is no owners handbook and no in car fusebox cover so I don't know the layout or what might be missing, anyone able to help on that? Shot a picture up maybe?
There was a connector hanging down at the front of the engine, a green one, found it was disconnected from a plug in the bottom of the block, oil level switch?
The boot light wasn't working, so I had a look, the switch was disconnected on the catch, so I plugged it in, still nothing, so I popped the light out, not connected, so I plugged that in too, still nothing, pressed the switch and released a few times and the light came on, but when I pressed it again it still stayed lit, so I disconnected the switch and it was still lit... so I have disconnected the light again, any ideas? I thought disconnecting the switch would kill the circuit and take it off
Any help would be appreciated,
Thanks all in advance,
John

Are you sure oil leak is rocker gasket and not the head which they are prone for. I brought a cheap 1.4 lx with a private plate which was worth £450, only paid £200 thought it was a right bargain, £1000 on and I did all the worth myself, I now have a nice car. So my bargain car was not so much of a bargain, but with cheap running costs, insurance , road tax, hoping to claw some money back in savings.

Definitely, how did it cost you so much to do the head gasket? I took on a head gasket on a rover 25 which it turned out had been heavily overheated, blocked the coolant system solid, head was pressure tested and failed so I got a replacement which was pressure tested and skimmed, replaced the full gasket set, lapped in all the valves, new thermostat and water pump, new belts, total bill was £570 if I remember correctly, done my sisters head rebuild after the cam belt snapped, 8 new valves, new belts, head gasket set, £200 tops

You've not done too bad for your money then, but that's a lot of work, but you'll know your car inside out and know its gonna give you years of trouble free motoring
Anyone got any idea on the radio issue, the fuse in the glove box is fine, is there a fuse on the back of the head unit for memory?
Got a parcel shelf and in car fuse box cover yesterday for a fiver, going to order a replacement shaft next week

Hi all, radio is still losing its code when off for a short period of time. I havent removed the unit yet to see if there is a fuse on the rear or checked that there is a memory live present, will it just be one of those, or is there a chance the head unit is bin fodder?
