Hi guys, my partner has a 1.4 16v kfu engine. It runs ruff as under 2100 revs, not wanting to pick up power and feels spluttery. Over 2100 it is fine and goes like it should. Have been on diagnostics and is now clear after a new throttle body fitted. But still the same. Any clues would be greatfully received.

Does it do it all the time? Cold or hot engine?

Could be fuel filter/pump...filter is a cheap thing to try first..

Hi Stu

Exactly the same problem on my 1.4 16v and looking through the forum I've found this problem cropping up a number of times with no definitive solution Crying or Very sad Mine is also clear of fault codes, has had a full service and two separate mechanics look at it. Have been advised it is probably the fuel filter, but on these I believe it is located in the tank, so not a simple job, next best guess is coil related ....
So does anyone have the definitive answer? If not I'm going to get the filter done and I'll let you know

The fuel filter isnt in the tank..its at the side under the car just inside the sill around the middle of the car...i think there around a tenner new..but dont forget to half fill the filter before finishing fitting it(difficult because there black and not see thru..
ALSO try to avoid getting air into the fuel system.

It just seems to me like there is fuel starvation below 2100revs..but what happens at 2200revs and above where it runs well??
These must have an electronic choke??
What about summer and winter settings for the engine intake etc??
This must be remedied with a remap of sorts?not that im suggesting anyone should but if the lower engine speeds were tuned to use more petrol would this sort it out??
This said you would get the same symptoms if the engine were getting too much fuel and not enuf air?check your intake and air filter and housing..
check for leaks and build up anywhere...SPECULATE TO ACCUMULATE..

I would start by doing it the old fashioned way and pull the plugs and check what colour they are or if they are wet. That will give you a clue whether it is misfiring due to intermittent spark or due to lack of fuel (bad injectors) or excess air.

Does it only do it when driving or will it also do it with the car still and throttle slowly pushed or blipped.

It might also be worth doing a compression test.

When were the plugs last changed?

Also +1 to eddies thoughts on checking for air leaks. All hoses for splits, chaffed or not secure.

Possibly also worth cleaning the MAP sensor.

Injectors or fuel pump would me my prime suspects with this behaviour.

Multipoint fuel injection & no summer / winter setting on intake.

Clean the ICV the idle control valve with carb cleaner...see the thread for this in the how to section...as thetes a bit you need to avoid touching..
May help and cheap to do and best to eliminate this from your findings..
Thanks mr bsi..i shall note that fact..you must have experience with this common fault tho??I wander if this has been covered and remedied before??

Hello. Same problem here.

I bought one car with this issue, so I have no experiences with this engine so far now.

I will do today basic oil and filter replacements, but I am not sure if ICV cleaning will fix this issue.

I have till 2000rpms NOK reaction on gas pedals. Between 1800-2000 there are misfires - almost no power and areound 2000rpm comes great vibrations and then car fastly go forvard according my actual gas pedal position...

after those rpms is behaviour of car perfect, reactions are quite ok, vibrations 0, sound silent and beautiful, according this i suppose it will be quite small issue..

Is there any MAF sensor on this engine? Or MAP? ... ICV is only for idle control, or it could really do this kind of problem?

sorry for english, I am not your neightbiur Smile

Try a download at peugeot, it normally cures most 1.4 16v (et3) faults as its such a s**t engine

I had cutting out, rough idle, misfire all cured by a download on an et3 207
