Just drive it. Pottering round town at low revs and idling a lot can coke them up. Just use it at higher revs with decent throttle openings and it will be fine.
This is hardly just sayin the engine is used a little..drive it and use higher revs..ive suggested a good thrash for curing some things but driving it at high revs when thete could be a serious problem..is not the right thing to do until you know that the engine wont pop...

Fortunately he has now serviced the car and done the belt but we did not know this when you suggested to drive it hard earlier...
Anyway..now the belts done and that a good thrash might be called for mid gears..high revs prolongued for upto 30mins three or four times..
The ticking you mention may be normal engine noise possibly alternator or similar..but as for the poor acceleration response and hesitation u need to take the icv off and give it a proper clean..strictly follow the HOW TO on the matter and go from there ...respond
