As above really... Loud hissing etc from behind the dash.. A specialist has diagnosed it over email as either the evaporator or something gone on a union/join.

He spoke like it would be an issue to remove the evaporator and a quick google suggests so! With the whole dash coming out - if this is the case I'd just not bother.. I saw a how-to with the heater matrix coming out ok, can I do the same with the evaporator?

Cheers!

How loud is it? Because my aircon hisses when it's on, but that's how it operates.

It happened last summer. It worked perfectly with no hiss.

Then over the space of 30 mins there was a very loud hiss, then it stunk, then AC didn't work!

Defiantly got a leak, would be easier to Pressure test the system with an air-con machine. Check the pipes going to the heater matrix, check the condenser hasn't got any holes in it and that the high and low filling pipes are ok. I haven't got air-con on mine so can't go into more detail

If the system has a leak it needs to be either pressure tested with Nitrogen OR a vac check done.

I think Qwikfit might do a no fix no fee that starts with vacuum test but it sounds like that will only prove what you already know.

Cheers lads.. This is what I'm going to get done.

I was just curious if the leak is in the evaporator is there any way of getting it out without removing the dash?

Maybe this is the same as I fixed on my gf's glx (climate control)
It used to hiss when ac was on, like a bubbling, up and down in pitch etc. then the resistor in the blower motor went and it was stuck on high fan

New blower motor resolved the problem.

Unplug this 1st, see if it still makes the noise, if it does then its further back from the cab, I would think anyway.
Mine was easier to pin point once the resistor failed

Sorry.. The AC worked fantastic. It was a real loud hiss over half hour or so, stunk, then hasn't worked since.

It's deffo something that's let go. I'll see what the specialist says!
