My mot is due on my 2002,138gti and i have an anti pollution fault reading on the centre screen and an engine warning light, the little orange engine light on the dials,
And i would like to know if these warnings will fail an mot and what is the next best step to sort this out and get it passed??
Also out of curiosity do the wheels come off during an mot?as i was told they dont remove anything for the test?
Also has there been any changes to the mot recently(past two years or so?)and does a rusty area still pass as long as it isnt bad enuf to be"dangerous bodywork"that could cut someone?
Thanks for any help given.cheers.

Rust can cause a fail if its dangerous or a weakness, and im pretty sure an eml light will fail it.

Rust provided not dangerous (sharp edges to cut people) or near a safety critical point (suspension mounting, seat belt anchor point, structural integrity like sill) will not fail.

Will the easiest and hopefully the cheapest course of action to solve the warning and the engine warning be to just get the codes read before any other move??or is there a better next step to sort this out???
Do they take the wheels off?
Thankyou..

They do not take the wheels off ... why are you worried about this?
But you do need to sort out the management light. Anti-pollution warning might also indicate you have a problem with the exhaust and likely to fail the emissions test anyway.
Where is the rust?

Its had a poor repair on the drivers rear and there's a few big patches that need attention.
On the sill,on the wheel arch, near the door and its all been badly painted on that corner.
its a shame because its spotless everywhere else,i just missed it when i bought it as it was still fresh and rust free then.
I will try and get some pics before i repair it.maybe a before and after.

Yeah it failed mot yesterday..just a small rust patch on the sill,no biggie.
As well as that it was..
Anti rollbar ball joint n/side
Brake lights flashing with indicators
4 different brake pipes
emmisions out
headlight aim both sides
And advisorys on..
1tyre low tread
1 other brake pipe.....
With the brake pipes done and the emmisions sorted its not sooo bad really..(once i do them that is)
