Where you live, sounds great that place, wish they were more places like that.
Lot easier, and safer, than cramping and struggleing under a car.
I have always thought there's a buisness doing this.
Local garages won't be impressed though.

No unfortunately im probly going to have to spend a few quid there but as you all say its worth it really.
We have a place quite local where you can rent a ramp and all the tools and just get on with whatever needs doing on your own car and they will help out in a number of ways...so if your half decent with a spanner its ideal..

The charges are reasonable too at £15 an hour for a ramp or £10 for a bay and there getting a flaring kit in the next few days so i will take it there and save my back on the floor..

Will benefit from a great range of tools and a compressor so if you get cracked on you can acheive a lot in a few hours..also if you have a mate whos handy you can get twice as much done for the same cost...

Im not sure if they have these all over the place but ive used one before and saved a fortune on a megane cabriolet i had...they get parts in at a good price.they give you tea and coffee.they have broadband and computers.they have a lounge area with comfy seats and big tv.they will drive you to get more bits or drop you off

.they will muck in and help out with jobs and have the know how to help or show you how.there's all the tools of a modern workshop including a good vice and fabricating area...all good and not too pricey either.

Sounds great. What's the name of the business and address? Or have you got a link to their website?

Im pretty sure there are a few different companys doung this all over..mostly in the big cities, which is the opposite of our local one.

Its called"Rent A Ramp"in Darlington..or just outside darlo anyway on the A66 WESTBOUND TOWARDS DARLINGTON...on an old wagon site in a new unit almost on its own 1mile from Darlo town..

This is the second one to open in darlington but i think the first ones closed now thru family issues i believe...the first one was called "Spanner it"which could have been a franchise but thetes definately a few across UK

As for local garages they will have to live with it and parts places dont mind because they will supply and buy local so its a winning idea if you ask me...spanner it said the only set up problem was the insurance and liabilty matter which theyve managed to get around after using an expensive solicitor....

they just read you your rights when you go in eachbtime and you sign a disclaimer every visit aswell..
I guess its the only way around it and no great problem anyway.

it should all be open in the next couple of weeks so when it is i will PM a mod and see if they can make it a sticky somewhere on the site.

Yeah..wot rates do they charge bblaster?
i know in darlington they encourage and have facilitys for car clubs to use thete place as a meet and a good opportunty to use ramps and tools and i know the car clubs members who are thete on the day

All get a reduced rate for renting facilitys and get a good chance to meet and spend the day helping each other out and making a regular meeting once a month or two months which is good for all concerned....

Im just wairing for the ok that theyve bought thete brake pupe flaring tool kit and il be paying them a visit working quicker than a bee because its still money right...

TBH i'm not sure on the rates as is not open for another couple of week and as a mate i don't pay anyway.
but like you say it will be used for club/fourm meets and open days for said clubs to use as a group and all help each other out with there cars, i know he is working on a website for it aswell so when it is officialy opened i will post all details up so anybody can give them or me a call and use it if needed.
