Yeah my 2002 137 gti failed badly yesterday so im really looking for any advice to help make these repairs as easy and as cheap as possible...all advice and comments welcomed..
So the fails are..
Antiroll bar ball joint n/side.
Brake lights flashing with indicators.
4 different brake pipes to renew.
Small rust patch to weld on sill.
Emmisions out....major headache..advice much appreciated here.
Headlites off aim.both of..
And advisorys on...
1tyre tread is low.
1 further brake pipe nearly shot.
It could have been worse i suppose but once ive done the brake pipes and sorted the emmisions(help here pleeez)its sort of easy enuf but any advice on saving money or time. or to help sort emmisions or anything that might help is really. genuinely welcomed here as my budget is limited and the car is vital...
Thankyou in advance guys.....cheers

emissions could be anything from a failed cat to a faulty lamda sensor which could be telling it to over fuel causing bad emissions

Yeah thats my main headache right now...if it helps im getting an antipillution fault on screen and an orange engine light on dash..
Is it worth servicing it in hope it will pass or is it best to get the codes read before spending money??

Sounds like the car is in need of a major service. The brake light and indicator is down to an earth cable, trace the loom to the earth point clean it up and it should be fine,

have codes read,it's much better than guessing, specially for the antipillution fault,as many things can cause this fault, but other fails is something u need to repair as it's for your safety and others safety Smile

Cheers guys..
Earth fault will check it out tomorrow.
emmisions..i am servicing the car..air filter in and throttle body cleaned as in the HOW TO for it..will refit carb tomorrow..
oil filter bought.£4.20
susspension antiroll bar ball joint bought.£9.85
air filter bougjt.£8.95
Carb cleaner bought.£2.90
sump plug and washer bought.£3.80
Dae combustion system conditioner bougjt.£9.25(secret weapon for emmisions fault..taxi drivers use it and its not for sale to the general public...as it says on tin so must be good.)
These measures for emmisions should sort it well enuf..
ball joint is easy..
brake pipes should be easy(mate down the road just happens to have spare brake piping and my local rent a ramp has flaring tools so easy enuf thete..
That just leaves the plate to weld or improvise so should easily reach retest deadline without too much hassle..
Just save to tax it and all is well....and thanks for help dudes and add anything else if it might help..thanks much.

You have an anti pollution fault, what do you expect with the emissions?! Of course it was going to fail!

The brake lines, really?! Ive never come across corroded lines at all!

Well ive not seen them myself yet but its failed on three seperate pipes and has an advisory on another..
Fails on btake pipes are...
nearside(front to rear) brakepipe xsivly corroded
offside. " " " " " " " " " ".
Offside rear. " " " " " ".
Offside front brake pipe slightly corroded.
Needless to say that if once i look the brake pipes are not excessively corroded i will not be changing them and will need advice if that is the case???
I will let you all know..
