i have heard that yes its easy to paint on and looks good but it can peel off quite easy in a short period of time

Plastidip isn't as fragile as you might think. I did my winter wheels for my MX5 in gunmetal using it last year and when I went back to my summer ones after about 5000 miles it still looked fine. You need a good few coats and you need to make sure the surface is nice and clean.

I believe it is easy to peel in the first few hours. But bonds stronger over time. I have seen a whole car plasti dipped then washed with a pressure washer and car wash. Not one flake or peel!
I probably going to do my black trims to stop it fading.
