Hi All
It’s a bit long winded but I hope you can understand what my problem is.
Can anyone help me with a re-occurring problem that I have had for some time now but keep turning a blind eye to it? I have a 2001(y) 1.9HDI that is great.
After several months of owning it with no problems, a loud knocking noise started from the engine I was away from home at the time and a local garage had a look and said it was the crank shaft pulley as it has a rubber dampening within it and it had gone. Well 2 hours later and £65 a new one was fitted and the car sounded sweet.
Then the cam belt went on it even though it had been replaced in the due time.
£700 later from Peugeot I asked what had caused the problem. They found bits of the fan belt behind the cam belt and suspected the fan belt went and sent bits into the cam belt causing it to jump teeth and wreck my engine.
After all the work was done, Peugeot also said the tensioner needed replacing at a cost of another £130 I declined and took the vehicle.
A week later a loud slapping noise came from the engine I stopped it and found one rib of the fan belt had come away I cut it off and replaced the tensioner and belt the same day. A couple of days later I was just doing a check on it and noticed that the fan belt had jumped off one tooth on the crank pulley. I pushed it back on and started the engine all fine.
I have now been checking it every day or so and keep finding the fan belt riding off one tooth on the crank pulley. It has come to a point now where again 1rib of the fan belt has come off again. I have left it like this so at least when it does ride off one tooth off the crank pulley it’s not hanging off and likely to cause the damage it did the first time.
Things that have been replaced
Full timing belt and pulleys via Peugeot
New crank pulley
New tensioner
3 Fan belts
Any Ideas?

Have you changed the alternator or pulley?

No. The alternator nor the alternator pully have been changed. The belt only rides off the crank shaft pulley.
Im tempted to buy an genuine Crank pully from peugeot just in case it was the cheap replacment the garage put on.

Firstly, is this the 1.9d engine or a HDi Engine. Either way the auxillary belt doesn't have teeth, it should be a flat belt with ribs.
If Peugeot have said the auxillary tensioner has gone, id replace that. 10 minute job, you don't have to buy it from Peugeot, you could get it cheaper else where.
Has it been checked for any play?

Like this but obviously for your engine. If they are they same part number for all models I might have one you could have.
What did Peugeot do?

This is 1.9HDI engine, the tensioner has been replaced, it is the right right belt ( 2 available) both been fitted at some point but continued to jump rib's.
All looks lined up but can't be 100% without getting the olde micromiter out and checking clearence's.

No suchh engine as 1.9 hdi. I think your cambelt idle pulley was changed. Not your aux belt. I bet the belt is slack.
