Hi, everyone. Signed up in the hope of finding someone who can shed some light on this.
My mate just bought a 260 gti 180 which has a whine in most gears and now he's saying it pops out of 5th gear so we've figured it's time for a new gearbox.
The question is which gearboxes will fit? and are there any 6 speed conversions that are a straight fit?

Hi
The 180 boxes are specific to the 180,
I do have a 180 box if I retested from a 180 that I broke,
Give me a pm if I interested.

What is it about the GTi 180 box that makes it different? I know it has close ratios and a long 1st gear but that aside, are there no other BE PSA boxes that are hydraulic clutch and cable gear selector?

There probably is, but the 180 has a 3.94 final drive and most other boxes arohnd are by far longer than that!
Pm me if you want it rebuilt instead of replaced.

Right so he's decided on a replacement box and iain's has sold. Anyone got any to offer or know of an alternative box that will fit? Cheers

My 54 plate gti 138 is hydraulic clutch, I'm pretty sure all be4/5 boxes are. The ratios will be different across models though.
