ok so I have had the car a while now and all I can here is a cricket noise coming from the engine bay its racking my brains ! any ideas would be appreciated

Try to get a video. When running? All the time? Could be a belt

squeaky pulleys/tensioners and belt isn't it? should go if you leave the car idling/get it warm

Reading this has suddenly made me realise, iv had my xsi about a year and a half now, its always had some squeaky noise coming from the engine which i presume was the alternator or some other belt. iv just realised it gone by itself.... erm... lol.
when you say cricket noise do you mean a squeaking noise or a tapping noise?

My squeak was caused by the engine mounts.

ok sorry guys didn't realise that you replied to me, its a gti 180 standard with decat I believe I work it out to be something with the blower inside of the car but will look into getting the timing and auxiliary belts done thanks

I think you have gathered its the noise you get when you press the recirculation button.
