if it's an automatic I'm guessing the clutch might be an issue if it's wanting to move itself, maybe the ECU, check at a garage is your best bet

What colour was the smoke?
Get a friend to push the accelerator while you look at the throttle body to make sure that the cable is moving freely and the throttle hasn't stuck open. Might be worth cleaning the ICV. (Guide here)

If the EML has come on, a code read is your first step. Once the fault has been identified, then you can go about fixing it otherwise it's just pure guess work.

hi guys i was doing a 70 on the motorway in my drive a 1.4 206 52 plate automatic the other day and my engine light came on and some white greyish smoke form exhaust and front bonnet turned car off checked could not seem to realize whats wrong

anyways it was fine for 20 minutes till i got close to home then the engine light came on again but now the car has just started to rev between 2000.3000 rpms by its self with no push on the pedal basically it wants to move on its own its happening in drive with out me doing anything its juddering and just shutting off as i put it into drive the revs drop and it cuts out

could it be due to an symptom of overflow of oil as i did have it serviced about 2 days ago

cheers urgent help needed

Have you had the codes read?

Unfortunately without the codes being read, it could be any number of things. People could make suggestions on what it might be, but then you could end up throwing money at a problem that doesn't exist.
Someone close by you may have a code reader and will plug it in for a few beer tokens.
