Hi,

I have a (soon to be scrapped Laughing ) 206 1.1 Independence 2004.

Been having a few problems with it recently.

Started running lumpy a couple of weeks ago and the fault code reader indicated that the injector no. 4 was faulty. Replaced this injector a couple of weeks ago and it run fine for a few days.

Then it started misfiring every so often, then it started cutting out completely. Sometimes I'd be able to keep it going by taking it out of gear and waiting for the ignition lights to come back on before putting it back in gear again and releasing the clutch (while still moving of course). Other times I would have to turn the ignition off and start it again. The engine management fault code was P0300 at this point but it is not really all that helpful!

Now the car refuses to run for more then a few seconds. It will start but won't rev and fizzles out after a few seconds.

The battery is also reading less then 12 volts, but I've tried another battery off of a more reliable (and older) vw polo.

Any ideas as to what else I can try? I'm just about to take the fuel injectors out again and check that they are all working but I'm out of ideas after this.

Tried changing the spark plugs?

P0300 - Cylinder Misfire Detected Random Cylinders

Possible causes
- Faulty spark plug (s)
- Faulty ignition coil (s)
- Clogged or faulty fuel injector (s)
- Intake air leak
- Fuel injectors harness is open or shorted
- Fuel Injectors circuit poor electrical connection
- Ignition coils harness is open or shorted
- Ignition coils circuit poor electrical connection
- Insufficient cylinders compression
- Incorrect fuel pressure

Not tried changing the spark plugs, not been on the car that long. They are bosch super 4 so assuming they are ok. Have checked there is a spark at each of the plugs but not to say its not weak or incorrect order.

Have a feeling that its fuel related (injectors or pump). I would have thought that if its another dodgy injector that it would continue to run and not just die.

Is there anyway to check the fuel pressure without special equipment?

Yeah you would, I would definitely go with the injectors or pump. And you've definitely tried a healthy battery as well?

The battery on the car is reading about 11.5 volts (might be getting a bit flat) and the battery I tried is reading around 12.6 volts. Using a fairly cheap multi-meter from maplins. Both batteries will start the car, just doesn't keep running.

The battery reading 12.6 volts is from a 98 polo and its running fine but with less complicated electrics I guess.

Going to check fuel flow tomorrow, just have no way of testing the pressure so will just check the pump is operating. Might buy a testing kit (if not too expensive) as don't want to buy parts unnecessarily.

Q) Is my battery flat?
A) Take it for a test 9/10 car garages or automotive shops will test them for free. If you have a multimeter you can check it yourself.
Battery voltage, approx power
Voltage ............Approximate charge
12.65 V ............100%
12.45 V............ 75%
12.24 V ............50%
12.06 V ............25%
11.89 V............ 0%

This is from the information on this forum.

Put it back together and it fired up. Still cuts out after a few minutes of driving it, its fine when just left idling though,

Fuel pump and injectors appear to be ok.

I'm guessing its the coil pack now so will get a new one, the one on the car is still under guarantee.
