Hi guys.
Is there a way of telling if my cam belt needs changing. I've got no history on my 206 and it's done 93000 miles. Is it possible to tell the age/condition of the belt?
My boot does not always lock with the central locking and as there is no manual key lock on it....the car is unsecure. I have had to fiddle about with it until it did finally lock, then I climbed through the back seat and undid the connector so the boot is permanently locked fir now.
Any suggestions/advice greatly appreciated thanks

Better to be safe than sorry just change the belt and water pump.

All we ever here is cambelt failure, So if i were you, i would have it changed, other wise you run the risk of blowing up your engine!

you can tell if it really wore. Whip the cambelt covers off and see if any of the writing is still visible. Have you got a petrol? the belts aren't very wide and will be weaker when wore.

You could go on the gov uk site. www.gov.uk/check-mot-h...ry-vehicle
This tells you the full MOT history of the car from new, gives the test station name and tele no.
Maybe the previous owner- owners had a pattern of the same testing station and they did all the work on the car,
a quick phone call, and they should tell you.

Boot lock is probably the solenoid that operates it. Its a quick swap over or it may be that the operating rod is starting to bend .. it's plastic and no longer pushing/pulling the lock mechanism.
Can you hear anything when you press the key fob to lock/unlock from the tailgate?

Re the cambelt....it's being done on Tuesday, along with water pump. As you all said...better to be safe than sorry.
Gazza....the boot lock rod works fine...it's the relay/solenoid I bet. When you activate the central locking most times there is no noise from the boot mechanism.....once ever so often it does click.

Might even be loose connection ... take the hatchback lining off (pull gently but firmly) and you can see the lock and solenoid. Try unplugging/replugging first ... then it will be replacing the solenoid unit (two screws).
