Hi there, My father died a few months back and i Inherited his old car (2005 1.4HDI Manual 206) however, I have been told by the garage that the gearbox is knackered and want to charge me stupid money for a second hand unit. Now i am looking on ebay and there are a few gearboxes but some are from petrol engines instead of diesels,. My question is, do they use the same gearboxes or are they different?? I have found an how to, to remove and replace the gearbox and i am quite good with mechanics, but i do not want to order something that will not fit. any ideas? help?

Cheers and thanks

I think petrol and diesels are different. The diesel was also used in Citroens and Fords ... perhaps quoting Peugeot adds a premium ...

What are they asking as I have one stored away I didn't use ...

Some of the petrol model's gearboxes will physically fit but its the ratios that are important, they differ between models.

Well first of all ,sorry for your loss, and my condolences to you and your family, about the gearbox,I believe that Petrol and diesel have a diff. gear ratio, but someone else will confirm this if I'm not mistaken.

I quick question ... what is actually wrong with it? It might be the clutch isn't operating properly or something much less serious.

You might want to consider a second opinion ...

And obviously, my condolences ... remiss of me in my first reply ...
