Have a 206 1.6 8v on a V reg.

I have had his issue for a few weeks now and can not work out what this could be.

I can start the car from cold and it will sit at 1200rpm, but then it puts itself up to 3000rpm unexpectedly with no warning but then it would drop to 1700rpm and it be going up and down between 1700-3000rpm and it be doing this for a about 5-10 minutes, but then it will drop to normal idle.

To the above it will do the same also when warm/hot, can restart the car after 10 minutes of the car standing, it will just start and stay at 1800-2000rpm, until i turn off and restart the engine, but this doesn't work all the time.

I changed the TPS 3 months ago and has helped in the running of the car but when plugged in it shows at 14% surly this isn't right, it has no MAF.

Does anyone had this issue or have any ideas to stop this.

tps from my experience with these cars wont show as 0% anyway, seen a few around 9% but 14 does seem high, have you tried adjusting the throttle cable (where it enters the body there's a sleeve and pin u let in or out to increase/decrease tension at idle) while your there maybe remove the throttle body cover and make sure the butterfly isnt loose or damaged

mine will always rev to 2000 when first start and it crawls down but i put that down tow onderful french engineering and the inclusion of the electronic flywheel effect thingymabob

onAlready checked, its never done like this before, it would normal start and sit at 1100rpm, before it all started.

assuming that you know the TPS is at 14% you have an OBD that shows live data. look at short term fuel trim (stft) it will fluctuate a bit but see if the management is ramping a load of fuel in when it does rev up,might give you an idea if its an ecu/injector fault then. maybe have a look at reading on lambda 1 aswell see if that is maybe reading wrong causing it to alter idle values on the air/fuel intake

Lambda been Changed 6 months go with a Bosch oem, I thought it could be the injectors but how would I know, because I can get 400+ Miles from full, but around town only getting about 225 to 275 miles. I was thinking of MAF the manifold pressure one, as if doesn't feel like it's running right below 2000rpm

ok,they dont run a MAF so to check the map,use the obd without engine running, the MAP sensor reading should be 1000m/bar 1bar or 1000kpa......normal atmosphere pressure (something i learnt from a guy on here lol) if thats low it means a duff MAP sensor though i would imagine it would have to be HUGELY out to cause over-revving,i say this as mine was 900kpa and revved normally just fuel consumption was a bit crap.

275 round town to be fair is about right, thats what,25-27mpg

I know it doesn't run off MAF, as said in 1st post, how would I check as in injectors not MAP, all I am trying to resolve is the fast idle on its own.

thats where my knowledge would come to an end on that one mate, know how to check if they are firing but not sure how to ensure they are firing as they should at idle etc because you would need to check capacity and amount fuel being released etc. Wouldnt show that on any normal obd, not even sure if a full onsystem could read that detail
