Hi sir,
My name is kaycee and i own a peugeot 206cc, this economy mode active always appear on my dash board but the first time i noticed it i switched off the engine and start it again then it went off. it happens couple of times but since i know my way around of deactivating it i do not worry. My uncle took the car yesterday for an appointment and unfortunately the economy mode was active and he did not notice this and he drove the car for a long distance and at a point the engine cut off and stops running. we have been trying to start the car since yesterday to no avail and the economy mode is still active. what baffles me is that i just changed the battery like a month ago i have sufficient fuel in the car. the engine rolls but will not start. how do i go about this please. every thing is working except the wiper.

Year and engine?
If you didn't follow the correct procedure for disconnecting and connecting the battery you could have damaged the cars brain.
Beginners guide
I would try a BSI reboot first to see if that solves it. Make sure all the connections especially the earth to gearbox is tight enough.
Economy mode should only become active once the engine is turned off, usually after about 20 mins, and should clear when the engine starts. It can be turned off in the BSI using PP2000 (showroom mode).

Surely you must know what size engine you're driving around with under the bonnet. If you don't, have a look in the log book (V5) and see how many cc it says. A 1.4 shows 1360cc. No idea what a 1.6 or 2.0 will show. Possibly 1560 and 1960

If it's a 206CC it will either be 1.6 or 2.0.

economy mode active means there's a problem, (not to be confused with eco mode which is a separate thing)
it could be a million things so your only course of action is to find some one with pp2000 that will tell you where and what the fault is it could be something as simple as a wire off a sensor

Really?
This was lifted straight from the handbook pack
The OP needs to find out why the engine isn't starting and then the message will go away.
For alls we know it may be sorted now as it's been a few days.
Always nice to get updates of where problems are up to and especially when they are solved.

i think you are right sir as the economy mode is a different thing from why the car refused to start in the first place. i called in a specialist after trying my spare keys and it didnt rectify the problem. the specialist is yet to get back to me if he is able to start the engine or not and also the cause. I will give a full report once this problem is solved. thanks for the concern and information as it was very useful. Bless you.
Kaycee

Mine comes up with this also, after I have had the radio on for a while with only the ignition on, the radio cuts out as it should to prevent the battery from discharging. This message pops up on the first start up to let me know it went into economy mode, the message comes with a bonging noise. Nothing to worry about in my opinion

the reason i say its different is because i broke down a few weeks ago on the motorway , the fan belt had snapped, not normally a problem took 5 mins to fix the belt but the car started to display economy mode active after a few trys at staring it, i had no wipers or heater ,the only lights were in the dash ,but the car just turned over in till it flattened the battery, after a tow home and some pp2000 diag it told me the was a problem with the speed sensor, so after investigation i discovered the fan belt had ripped the plug off the loom when it snapped, its right next to the bottom pully, once i replaced the plug the car started up straight away and economy mode had gone,
iv had it in limp mode when the turbo went, but it started every time but wouldnt rev, so no im not confusing it with limp mode .
hope you have got it fixed by now anyway kaycc

Interesting !!! the mechanic called and he said he got the engine started and it should be the fuel pump problem but he is singing another tune now as the problem persist. a fuse in the brain box keeps cutting/burning and now he is saying my it seems my fuel pump is okay. he asked for more time and i am patiently waiting as mechanics are hard to trust in this part of the world. when he got the engine started in the first place, he drove it and the engine went off on the express road. he had to tow the vehicle for a re check. I will ask him to change the plug or what do you think?
