Okay so i got a set of GTi 180 mirrors but the top of the cover sticks out slightly, i'm guessing there's some kind of clip that goes here?

Aye, I'm sure it's the same type of clip that is used to attach the doorcards to the door.

It's the same clip that holds the grill to the front wings just below the headlamps. 6995X3 26p each

Thanks guys, tried the door card ones and they seem to be too big? Are they not the same as the front grill ones? I cant remember?

Nah the front grille ones are the same design as the doorcard ones but are a fair bit smaller, i used one on my mirror when i broke one removing it.
