So I'm loading the car (and roofbox) on the drive in the pouring rain for a family weekend away when what do I see...? A red oily fluid p***ing down the drive and along the path, and I think to myself, BUGGER!

Steering fluid well down so run out and get some more, put car on level ground and top up... still pouring out! Sad

Hence a drive to Weston with Popeye arms and more topping up, and pouring out Sad Sad Sad

Investigations are clearly needed, any pointers...?

Get your head under the bonnet and have a look around the pump to see where the leak is. If nothing obvious, get you head under the car and look for a leak around the steering rack.

Could just be one of the high pressure hoses sprung a leak, the wife's Espace did it a while ago. Not to expensive if it is and a quick DIY fix.

Couldn't physically get at the leak to sort it myself, hence it's gonna spring me £150 from my local indy garage to get sorted Sad

Problem is he reckons the pump is now noisy, but I told him I didn't have the £200 odd quid for that this month so that'll hopefully be bearable, for a while at least!

Either that or it's a DIY fix, anyone know if it's a simple job for a complete spanner monkey?

If its been driven with no fluid in then there is a high risk that the pump will now be shagged as the fluid also lubricates the pump's internals.

Can you not get a second hand pump and a Haynes manual. That's if your comfortable working on your car

Well there's good news and bad news, the pipe is £150 from the garage but thankfully his apprentice spanner monkey has broken the reservoir taking it off so that means a shiny new one free gratis!

I'd already found a handy pump replacement guide here so was going to give it a go if I hadn't had that little bit of good fortune, about time I got a bit too!
