Gone out to car other morning and it was completely flat, was so unexpected I thought remote had gone flat lol.
Got it charged and running again and running shows 14.4 v while running. Left over night batt shows 9v next morning so I have no dout batt is ready for bin. BUT could a bad batt be linked to poor idling or am I just clutching at straws hoping that could be a reason? Lol.

It's a possibility, having the battery run flat could mean the car needed to re learn the setup including idle parameters again? Not 100% sure it works that way on Pugs though... tryed a reboot since charging the battery?

This should have been done when the battery was reconnected after charging providing the correct procedure was followed.
OP, have you had your battery load tested?
If it isn't holding charge then it could be something as simple as the boot light is staying on overnight. Eco-mode should stop the battery draining, but it is possible to turn it off in PP2000 and put the car into showroom mode.
If it isn't a sealed battery, check the electrolyte and if low, top up with boiled water that has been left to go cold. Halfords charge 60p/litre for this stuff.
A dying battery could cause erratic idle, especially if you are driving with your lights, heater and wipers on as the alternator can't supply the power needed to run everything.

Sorry macca, I've got to disagree on this one...
Boiled water is basically no different from the stuff straight from the tap (if anything, you'd get slightly higher levels of ions and dissolved minerals as you evaporate some of the water you start off with. If there are any dissolved gasses (like hydrocarbons if you we're living in a fracking area) those might be driven off by boiling but the main issue is unaffected.

You do want distilled (water boiled off and re-condensed, leaving the ions and minerals behind in the boiling vessel), or de-ionised (ions and minerals trapped in filters), water.
Preferably, the only ions in the water should be from the sulfuric acid, used to react with the plates in the lead/acid process.
60p/l is a low price to extend (or not cut short) the life of a battery - it's not like huge quantities are needed...

We have a device at work that turns normal mains water in to deionised water
As for the battery, it sounds like it's ready to be weighed in for beer tokens.

Check for electric leaks in your car that makes the battery goes flat,unless your battery is more than 4 years old ,then it's going to die by itself and it will not hold charge anymore.
You will be surprised to know what battery can do to your car,when it's weak,all electrics runs in crazy mood,such as BSI,ECU,and things related ,so change the battery,and see how things goes,you need it sooner or later anyway

well after car working ok for a few days then suddenly (20mins after last journey) its decided to go completely dead again, I had to buy new battery today. and car runs soooo much smother now i cant believe it!
had to jump car to get work this morning (i know TUT TUT) but had to get work, car was 14.4v when running before journey and same when i arrived but as i turned off key battery was flat again, so fitted a new batt during lunch hehe.
