Hey guys, slight problem on my GTi 138,
All was fine before and then started losing power after 5000rpm in all gears, more noticeable in the higher gears as it feels like you've let off the accelerator Sad

It also seems a bit lumpy when it does it, it will carry on all the way through the problem just very slowly

It didnt seem too bad at first but now its getting really bad
I serviced it the other day as was hoping it was that but still no better.

I dont know if this has anything to do with it but its been tapping/rattling under heavy acceleration since i had it was hoping it was the manifold problem thats common as im changing that soon
Any ideas?

Mods on the car atm are: decat, middle box removed, EGR blanked

Surely if the egr is removed the ecu light will be on?

The ecu light is on due to the decat and not the EGR already scanned it, it only comes on now and then because of the decat

Lambda sensors removed? Could be a fueling issue.

Lambda are there but they won't be reading right from the decat. You need to check the voltage on them and your fault codes.

The part thats getting me is it was fine after the decat though, im reading the codes today and will get back to you.

Spark plugs were changed saturday when i serviced it.

Im thinking im gonna end up doing a full rebuild soon as the tapping is really annoying and cNt be healthy, i think its coming from the valve spring/valves/valve buckets. Sad

Another thing i brimmed the tank yeaterday and the fuel gauge was reading just under full even though it was upto the cap, then when driving it seemed to use alot more than it normally does..... Cant see a leak though

Known issue, it's the hydraulic tappets on the early engine's like yours.

Depends on your skills with the spanners, would be a new set of hydraulic tappets.

Apparently there only designed to last 40k miles according to Peugeot UK customer services Laughing

Im a truck mechanic by trade so i would say pretty good with the spanners, heard bad things about the belt tensioner on these, is it much of a problem to do or just blood sweat and tears Smile
