Hi Folks,
I have had an ongoing issue with my automatic gearbox since buying my 206CC six months ago.
The problem is that at speed, there comes a loud "clunk" noise and then the engine starts revving quite high (in comparison to normal) - the car continues on as normal except when you then come to a start it requires you to rev the engine for a bit before it moves off again.
The car has been in 2/3 times now for this issue - at first they found a leak in the gearbox fixed it and gave it back to me, this didn't help. Brought it back and they have supposedly replaced the gearbox and the car was driving fine the issue did not happen at the normal 50mph that it had before but at the weekend I did some motorway driving and after about 5-10 miles driving at 70mph the same issue recurred.
Does anyone know what the cause may be? Considering the gearbox has been replaced I am at a loss as to what else it could be? Has anyone else had a similar issue and had the gearbox replaced what was the outcome?
I intend to bring it back to them this week - but at the last visit they had the car for 4 weeks, so I would like some idea of what to advise them before I go back.
Thanks,
Cillian

Who has been doing the diagnosis & repairs to the gearbox?
These AL4 gearboxes are well known in the trade for being utter rubbish & best avoided, something which most people only find out AFTER they buy a PSA product with one fitted.

Initially it was just the garage where I bought it from. However the second time they sent it to an automatic specialist. As I took out warranty with the garage I bought it from I am reluctant to bring it elsewhere without giving them a chance to try and rectify it as they are in a better position to argue the case with the warranty company than I would be if I went to an independent french or Peugeot dealer, but I am seriously considering it.
