Evening. As my 206 passed the MOT without any advisory's I am thinking ahead regarding keeping it long term. I do love the car but am in two minds. It defo needs the head changed as it leaks oil from the usual place. So far no cross contamination but it isn't getting any better. Been quoted around £350..I have no idea if this is good. The car doesn't over heat so skimming not needed? I always worry about buying another second hand one as you have no idea what sort of life it has had! My car is a 1.4 petrol, 155'000....16 years old.

You should really skim the head while it's removed, it removes any doubt of getting a decent seal with the new head gasket.
Does that price include a timing belt kit, water pump & new head bolts?

You can change the head gasket yourself, dead easy on a TU engine, Only special tool needed was an angle torque gauge for the head bolts.
For what the garage is charging you could buy an exchange recon head and new gasket kit, water pump, timing belt, head bolts plus oil and coolant.
This is the place I used to skim my head. They charged £40 for the skim and it was in a bad way.

Thanks for the replies. As far as I know it was for the labour and the gasket. The water pump and timing belt were changed only 10,000 miles ago. I have watched a few videos on youtube...one from a cheerful German guy and an English chap...looks not to bad a job but I'm not that confident about doing it myself...maybe if I had a spare car! Is it important to change the head bolts?

They don't have to be renewed but it is good practice.
They only have 1mm of tolerance (175.5mm new, 176.5mm replace) measured along the length of the shank
