Does it cause damage to steering components caused by friction?
Which power steering fluid should I get?

Haynes manuel says Total Fluide LDS.
All fluids that are low in a car is obviously not good for mechanical parts, barring screen washer of course.
Take it you have had a leak and fixed it.

Just realised the problem today. I see if there is a leak once I top it up.

Just to add should be 3 markers on the dip stick, top up between bottom 2 markers, as when fluid is warm it expands and will then read higher up the stick.

Power steering is only active at low speeds, so as long as you drive it like it's a rally car, it'll make no difference at all, haha.

Crap! I been driving it (non rally style) all these months and just realised the problem now.
What damage do you think I have caused? So far I havent noticed anything while driving.
I bought this power steering fluid:

There is only one way to find out if it is damaged - wait and see. It could range from you having got away with it to being knackered in a couple of months.
Wait and see!

Im suspicious that my power steering fluid is leaking as I remember topping up to the max 7 months ago and today when I checked the fluid level it is totally dry. Plus I can see dark wet patch on the driveway where I park my car. I think I should worry unless the 206 is power steering fluid thirsty car?
What are the common causes of power steering fluid leakage? Is there a diagram/picture that shows schematics of the power steering system of the 206?

Mine recently went totally, the pas pipework runs across the front of the bumper and was wearing a hole, just leaking a little at first and then eventually went! Typically whilst I was 200miles from home at the time!
Drove it home, V STIFF! and then took it to the garage. He replaced the pipe (£150 inc labour i think it was) but said the pump was whining due to being run dry and advised its replacement.
Thankfully his spanner monkey broke it so i got a new one for freeeeeee!!!!
Just right under the lip of the bumper is where it clips, have a look as if it's not properly secured it will rub...

Ok what about products like these that claim to stop leaks:
www.halfords.com/webap...yId_255219
Do they work?
Also in 206 beginners guide in this forum it states that a 206 PSF reservoir takes 1litre max of power steering fluid. For real?
What are the common causes of power steering fluid leakage?

Damaged pipework, defective pump or failed seals in the hydraulic system on the steering rack.

Which is the most worst case expensive scenario? How do I diagnose which cause it is?
However I notice my steering is not stiff. From this comment can you narrow down the problem?
Also the link I posted earlier that takes you to a product that claims to fix PSF leaks. Does that really work?
