The 266 x 22mm vented front set up of a later GTI / XSI etc is a better upgrade for a 1.4, the larger callipers bolt straight on & will fit behind the 14" rims.

I've got 17" wheels on it, I'm looking at the gti 180 set up just because I'm hoping to do an engine conversion later on also,

Does your car have ABS? If it doesn't I'm sure the master cylinder is smaller than ideal.

You should have an ABS light in the instrument cluster that comes on w/ ignition for test and the goes out. Just right of the airbag lights and just below the fog lights indicators (in the angle between the fuel and rev gauges)
Or check the back of your wheel hubs for toothed rings and reader sensors...
(youtube has videos, and google images, of what they look like)
Or find a straight stretch of road and step HARD on the brake pedal (after checking there's no traffic behind you!).
If your wheels lock up and you leave black streaks and smoke behind you, you don't have ABS.
If the wheels don't lock up and there's no noise and smoke, but the brake pedal pulsates/vibrates under your foot - you've have ABS.

It's probably easier to just open the bonnet and look behind the passenger side headlight for a alloy block with some brake pipes going into it!

I lost interest in the thread soon as I saw engine conversions mentioned
Biggest waste of time & money going, why do people never learn
