I purchased a replacement air con freon pipe a while ago after mine sheared off.
The current one that needs to be replace is held in via what looks to be a circlip spring type fixing. This is pushed inside a larger bore pipe. It's all aluminium so I can't get it out with brute force without breaking the other pipe.
Any ideas?

Take it to an air con specialist.
They will have the tools & knowledge to avoid causing more damage & seeing as the system has been open to the elements its going to need a good vac out anyway.
