Hi , I have a 1.4 2003 206 and have a massive handbrake imbalance which I'm almost certain will be an MOT fail. At 3 clicks on the handbrake the D/S wont budge whilst the passenger side spins freely so needs attention.
Went to remove the drum today and the swine wont budge so I'm thinking must be a lip on the drum stopping it from coming off.

Is there anyway to back off the shoes through one of the wheel holes (on my old saxo I always had to do this to get the drums off) ?

Cheers for any help (I don't have access to a hub puller, only tried to remove by hand)

Best thing to do is:

Park car on level, with handbrake off,
Slacken handbrake from inside car,
Pump brakes 10 times to level them up,
Retighten hand brake.

To remove the drums, undo the handbrake from inside the car, you should be able to then remove them.

I had a similar problem last year, turned out my shoe adjuster on the passenger side were faulty.....and yes, it will not pass the MOT in its current condition.

Usually, if you let down the handbrake, it will release the brake shoes into its lowest position (away from the drum) so the drums can come out easily. The lip / groove created inside the drum is by the braking when the wheel cylinder pushes the brake shoes against the drum inside.....over time..........you have released the handbrakes before trying to remove the drum?

Cheers , yeah tried totally slackening the handbrake and still wont budge. I can feel the shoes stopping the drum from coming off, just wondering if there was some way to back off the shoes.
I know this set up has a 'star adjuster' , is it possible to use this through a wheel hole.

Arrrgghhh I hate drum brakes !!!!

If you can get the drum off you can manually adjust the shoes - the trouble is you then won't get the drum back on because of the lip.

Freeing off the adjuster probably won't help - they are usually knackered.

Time for new drums, bearing and shoes.

Also look closely at how the inner seals are fitted, lots of people reassemble these the wrong way around.

Remember new staked nut and a torque wrench for the correct torque on that nut (about 130ftlb or there abouts IIRC.)
