My clutch is biting pretty high up, but it wasn't that bad about 6 months ago. It seemed to get worse after a recent service, but maybe I'm paranoid, although I'm certainly slipping it more because of how it's moved. It's coming up to 65K do you think I can just adjust the clutch cable to shift the bite point or is the clutch on it's way out?

clutch is not adjustable for bite point.

I'm sure the garage said the cable looked good at the last service so its not hydraulic. So is the cable not adjustable?

if it is cable clutch (some are hydraulic) press the pedal to the floor then slip your foot side ways off the pedal so the pedal flies back towards you. That can be enough to make the auto adjuster on a cable clutch take up the slack.
It might take two or three goes. If nothing after the third go it is clutch change time.

If it is a new clutch time then a new cable is MUST fit. DO NOT, DO NOT, DO NOT listen to anyone who says a new clutch doesn't need a new cable and only fit genuine Peugeot cables. Any other make of will take longer in time to fit than the purchase price saves. If your fitter says new cable isn't required take the car somewhere else as he doesn't know what he's doing.

Not fitting a new cable will destroy your new clutch.

When you slip you foot sideways keep your leg out of the way. While not seriously damaging it hurts if the pedal whacks you in the shin. (Speaking from experience)

Thanks. Will give it a couple of goes. I was thinking of taking it to the Peugeot garage anyway for that if they give a reasonable quote. I've no idea what the local garage will do and once it's done you just don't know. I was less than impressed with the work they did on the brakes so prefer to pay a premium and not drive off a cliff due to substandard parts!

The cable is automatically adjusting but sometimes need a little help. Slipping your foot off can be enough.
