As the title says -
Engine management light on
ABS light on
Code reader shows two faults read>
1 - injector circuit open
2 - multiple engine missfire
Physical issue......lumpy/missfire running
Done a search on hereand looks like it could be injector(s) but as it doesn't read which cylinde I am rather wary of simply replacing them all.
Any suggestions appreciated
Thanks

considering the fault reader gave you a code saying "injector circuit open" I would have thought an injector fault would be pretty self explanatory?

take them to be tested? look inside exhaust manifold to see any difference in colour on a particular cylinder? remove spark plugs and see if any of them are different?

When the engine is cold remove the exhaust manifold heat shield then pour a few drops of water on the manifold. Start the car and see where the water doesn't evapourate from as quick as the others. This will give you a starting point, then disconnect that cylinders injector and test the resistance using a multimeter should expect to see about 15ohms if i remeber right. Open circuit will read 0. If open circuit replace said injector and go from there.

Or buy a cheap infrared temp scanner and do the same test using the temp reader instead of the water.
Water is cheap but the scanner (£10 - £155) can be used to measure lots more.

Oldskoolz - No I am not that thick yes it did suggest an injector fault but how to identify which was the issue.....
richpowell - thanks - inovative idea that I hadn't thought of. Much more used to working on older cars (most without fancy injectors and electronic ignition) - pull off each lead in turn see which has no effect on lumpy running
kandlbarrret good one too thanks
Anyway ran out of time ended up dropping it at local garage - one injector blocked - cleared - two others leaking seals and the coil pack was breaking down. Total £220 parts and labour back on the road in a day - keeps the boy happy and the wife off my back - not that expensive - sometimes the bullet must be bitten

just remember under the electronics and plastic covers the basics are identical. Suck, squeeze, bang, blow.
Made slightly more difficult due to coil packs so you cant pull individual leads but you can for injectors.
You can still remove spark plugs and check colours though modern engines run MUCH cleaner so a slightly brown plug is now one running very rich not, as us older guys think almost correct!
All engines still need air and fuel to much or to little and you get a problem.
The final complication is the lambda sensors and feedback circuit. A sound, non leaking exhaust is critical. If you are trying to fault find and you have a blowing exhaust or damaged cat you MUST fix that first as these will give wrong exhaust gas mixes. The lambda sensors will "see" the incorrect mix caused by the ehaust blow or failed cat and send that signal to the ECU. The ECU will adjust the fuel to compensate causing even more problems.

Thanks kandlbarret. All getting very complex. Have an old mk3 Golf Convertible as my toy to play with. Basic engine functions same (timing belt easy on an 8 valve). But even it has injectors that do I confess hold some fear. It does have old fashioned plug leads tho lol
Always good to see positive contributions. These are what make forums so valuable.

Easier method would be unplug each injector at the wiring one by one. The one that doesn't make a difference to the running will be your duff one.

That's what I did. And on here someone suggested if one has failed it is normally the one below the squirter hose for the windscreen, which was mine.

Thanks for the imput guys and hope it is of value to others....or me in the future if needed. As I said ran out of time as I was going away and he needed it for work. Reckon the damage wasn't too bad at the garage.
