Hi All,
My 206 failed its MOT almost 2 weeks ago tomorrow is the last day i can get a retest.
The car seemed to missfire when it got warm and it leaked oil like crazy to the left hand side of the head gasket. After many personal problems i changed the gasket, fitted new bolts etc did everything by the book, had some issues getting my timing to line up properly, got my pins in, got the tensioner set but kept having issues where the tensioner would let go of tension all of the time.
Managed to sort this in the end but then after fitting the aux belt the car started to misfire once it got warm.
I am at a total loss and ive got maybe 12 hours left.

Timing correct? plug gap correct?
VVT pulley on correct? Seen people put it on before and push the locating pin out

I'm going to grab a set of plugs tomorrow to eliminate that.
I'm not sure how the pulley can go on wrong? It's got an alignment hole which is what i used to time it, i simply bolted the pulley to the camshaft then using a small drill bit locked that pulley to the hole in the head/cam carrier.
Where is the locating pin? Do you mean the woodruf type keyway in the inside of the pulley? if so then this is in and correct/bolted up to the cam properly.

On the vvt pulley, there is a very small locator, it is very possible to not allign this when bolting the pulley on
Does the car idle like a bag of s**t?

It seems to idle on 3 cylinders but when revved it sounds smooth, occasionally the missfire is less serious than others asif it could be a weak spark. I've reserved a set of new plugs at ECP that i will pick up first thing tomorrow morning.
Here is a screenshot of autodata (where i got my guide for timing).

The blue arrow shows the VVT Pulley and the pin i used to time it, Is this correct?

Sounds like the timing is out
Yes thats correct, but im talking about when you did the headgasket. You had to remove the pulley to get the cam cover backing off, and the LOCATING pin may have been pushed through meaning the pulley is bolted on incorrectly ie 1/2 tooth or so out . And the reason the car is running is because the VVT is compensating for the timing

If it helps, We found that the car will occasionally report code P0012 but not enough to throw up the EML just comes up during random scans.

The large pulley, with a big nut, then a nut behind it. Pulley was also full of oil.
It has a locating peg to locate it to the camshaft to make sue the timing is alligned

As per Addaz's advice, it's definitely a variable valve timing issue.
If the valve timing isn't set with the VVT pulley fully retarded then it will run like crap and cause all the symptoms you're experiencing, as the timing with retard further than the point which should be zero (reinforced by the fault code you've had)
