Car basic 206 S reg 1998.

Problem. driver indicator lights stuck solidly on (front and back). Stay on even if take key from ignition. Left hand side works as normal. Hazards , left flashes normal, right stays on solid. When I try and use right indicator from the stalk I can hear a faint clicking noise, slower and much quieter than the fully functioning left side.

Had RAC out they could not solve it but said it might be the body control module. Also thought it may take a couple of hours to diagnose - which means the labour charge alone would be half the value of the car if not more. Is there anyway anyone her could help me try to trace the problem. Note in the past we have had the lefthand side indicators stick like this but not for more than a few minutes. This is the first time it has happened on the right.

The indicator contacts inside the stalk on these cars wear out and get full of copper slithers from wear either giving constant contact or very poor contact. You can remove, strip and clean and it is relatively easy on pre-plex cars. Alternatively get a working one from a scrapper and fit that to see if it makes a difference.

If it isn't that I think the flasher relays are on the ECU so, if it is the relays, it makes repair very expensive.

To be honest it does sound like relays and not the stalk but a stalk should be cheap to swap out.
