Hello, I have a 206 1.4 petrol on a 53 plate.
I have noticed the front suspension springs seam to show and the rear wheel arch sits low close to the tyre.
Looks like the car is accelerating hard though it's stationary.
It's the same apperance with little fuel in the tank and no passengers so there is no additional weight when standing still.
I did change the rear shocks for a second hand set about a year ago and fitted to the Haynes manual instruction and distance (31.5 cm between centre top and centre base bolts if I remember right) but it made no visual difference.
The rear axle I have changed since rear shocks were changed so the bearings in the swinging arms are OK I'm sure.
Any ideas as to what might be happening?.
do the front suspension springs grow with wear?

No. should have mentioned the car been owned by me from new.
all standard parts.
Do you know is the front springs increase in size of do they have a fixed stop
the car has done 180K miles.

Back axel gone ?
Pressure gone from rear dampers ?
Nothing grows with wear it reduces in size . As parts get worn .
Front springs could crack /split .
Rear beam bearings ?
You have lowered it to much ?
Need new dampers ?
Dead body in boot ?
Drop the front to match ? Not the best solution .
Torsion bars rusted badly ?
Gravity plays its role !
Did you lower it with the torsion bar ???

Do dampers (worn or otherwise) affect ride height on the rear? I wouldn't think so unless they have been changed for the wrong part.

I think it would affect the rear . Worn or otherwise .
Ask youself what do the dampers do ? Same process as the ones on the boot ??Ever had a boot that dont open fully or stay up ? They need to return fully . I could be wrong . Common sence ?

Dampers on the suspension do not do the same job as those for holding a boot open. If ( and I don't know if they are) the dampers on the rear suspension are gas pressure the gas is not in them to keep the damper up but to prevent the oil aerating.
Dampers should not significantly affect ride height unless they are the wrong part.
Gas dampers may have a small effect but it would be very small. Ride height is controlled by the torsion bars though can also drop when the stub axle pivot bearing fails, torsion bars fail or torsion bar locating points corrode.
