206 1.4 quicksilver, Good car?

Ok so I am currently driving a 1.1 saxo that has just suddenly having everything going wrong with it so I'm looking at getting a new car and saw a 206 quicksilver 1.4 for sale at 600 03 plate 75K and MOT till April.

Tidy looking car just had a few questions about them?

1. What's it like on Fuel?
2. Are they cheap and easy to maintain?
3. What is the road handling like?
4. Is there much overtaking power?
5. Do they cry when you come to a hill?

Also is there much to look out for when i go to view one? I would assume there's a sticky on here somewhere about that?

is this a 16v version ? if its 8v itll be noticeably quicker but you'll still need to think about if you've got 800m to overtake.

The 16v version is quicker still and a the mpg is good on them probably around the same maybe 5mpg less than your 1.1 although you wont have to nail it everywhere quite as much.

As for handling I had a 206 1.1 and I think it held every corner I threw it into they are exceptional just dont cheap out on tires and they are great.

Overall a better car than the 1.1 saxo Id say, little thirstier just make sure you go all over the history and make sure its had a cambelt done or you may have to shell out yourself.

Being a 206 the first thing would be to HPI check it, loads of written of & repaired 206's out there due to the amount of 206's that younger drivers have had there hands on.

I was looking at a cheap Quicksilver earlier this month, it was on VCAR when I checked, shame as it looked alright from the pictures.

Thanks for the reply.

I wouldn't think there would be much of a difference and trying to overtake with the saxo you need let the thing go to redline and in 4th there's no power till about 5k and it only revs to 6

I'm not sure if it's the 16v or not didn't say in the add. Its really just overtaking power I'm looking for, my daily drive has loads of people driving about 45-50mph for some reason and trying to get past them is a nightmare with constant traffic coming towards you. I'm not to bothered with top speed i usually just chill at the speed limit but we all knowa long stretch of road with no speed cameras on it Wink

Head gasket is also a common problem with the 1.4's so look out for that.
Find out when and if its ever had its cambelt done too.
Other than that there a good little car and if you enjoyed your saxo then you'll enjoy the 206.

Thanks, I did enjoy the saxo when it was working. It handled good and was surprisingly quick even though it took about a 4 mile straight road to get it upto it's top speed Smile

Depends on the model version to be honest, but for example there isn't much between the 8v Look and the 8v Quicksilver other than 0-60 and top end which even then wouldn't be greatly noticeable.

Loads of decent cheap 206's still out there, you just have to pick very carefully.

Does it have to be a Quicksilver spec?

The Quicksilver would be my first choice but a normal 1.4 would fit the bill of what I'm looking for.

The guy selling that is willing to do a px for my saxo but it's a 1.6 which might be to expensive for me to run atm and it's not got much MOT on it

Sport spec is worth a look to & available with the smaller engine options.

Could always ask if the seller would stick it in for an MOT early, if it passes you cover the costs if it doesn't then the costs come out of the price of the car. Just make sure it's an MOT place of your choice.
Soon weeds out any knobheads looking to offload s**t heaps or anyone with concerns over the car itself.

Well the 1.6 is at a dealer so i i cant see why he wouldn't do that. But i am only 17 and the insurance is only going to cost about £65 to change it over. But i'm assuming the 1.6 will be shocking on petrol and a bit to much car for me Very Happy
