Hi Guys,

I have a ever so small oil leak on the cambelt side of my engine, you can see it's coming from around where the gasket is and reading online it seems a pretty common fault with the 1.4 8v engine.

So am I pretty sure I need a new Head Gasket, but I am wondering if anybody could give me advice on a reasonable price? Am I better off going to a peugeot garage etc.

I have been told by a friend that £300 would be reasonable.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated,

Thanks.

I had mine done beginning of the year, £300 is a good price though. Make sure to enquire if it needs skimming as well.

That seems a good deal if they include and head skim too,
might be a good idea to throw a new water pump and cambelt on it at the same time.
it's easier to do with the head off.

It had a new cambelt and water pump only three months ago! The leak started about a month ago.

I'll get some quotes and hopefully I can get around the £300 mark.

Cheers for the replies.

Head gasket or maybe the rocker cover, better way to be sure,is to clean that area, and observe where the oil come from before you do any work.

1.4 8V rocker cover leak is quite common. Those gaskets get really hard and brittle and crack.

Rocker cover is easily warped as well if the fixings are tightened above there recommended torque setting.

Many a TU rocker cover has been ruined by people being to heavy handed on the tools when refitting it.

+1 to also check rocker cover gasket. Common failing. On the 1.4 8V these get really hard and crack.
