My engine feels like it's going to stall when it's ticking over ive read somewhere that it could be the idle control valve would it make a difference if I took it off and cleaned it or to just buy a new one.

I'd try cleaning it 1st and see if it makes any difference rather chancing buying a new one. There's a guide on here if you look around
