Right, friend of mine bought a 2000 plate 206 GTI on sunday. Seemed fine, another friend of mine was selling and has been faultless for the past 4 weeks ive known it started first time everytime. Coming back from work today the car just cut out completly on him. Got it towed back to his. Now the engine just turns over on the starter fine, but it just will not fire. Checked every fuse about half a dozen times, one had blown but changed it hasnt blown since. Read the ECU for fault codes and nothing. When you try and start it just turns and eventually the K light starts flashing. Checked fuel rail, plenty of fuel getting there. Clean as anything as well. Oil seems fine. The digital heater controll however has gone out and wont come back on at all as well. Only thing we can find is a 2 pin plug that is coverd in oil dangling from a group of a few others behind the rad next to the oil filter. However cant see anywhere for it to go to within reach. Spark plugs where changed last week. Central locking and alarm still seems to work.
Anybody have any ideas what to try next?
Lee

Not too sure how to check the coil pack. Any advice?
Also what can be done about the immobiliser.
Also forgot to mention on the end of the engine that meets the gearbox there is a strong smell of something burning.

to many things to list most common i can think of is
coil pack
crank shaft sensor loose or faulty
no fuel getting to plugs.
if you open the bonnet there is a big RED button at the back on the right hand side press it and try starting it again.

Good suggestion. Did he go over a pothole just before it cut out by any chance?

Allready tried the fuel cut off switch a million and one times, even tried turning over with someone pressing the switch as well, no difference.

Silly question, but have you tried locking and unlocking the car? Both by fob and lock? If it's an immobiliser fault that's worth a try. Mine did this recently and the above sorted it

anybody got any ideas as to why the digital heater control has gone off? Checked every fuse about 10 times, this went the same time the car cut out. Does this run off a fuse? Only thing i can think of is if its a relay?

Turn the engine over with somebody looking into the oil filler hole. Does the camshaft spin?

You have checked the fuses in BOTH the fuse boxes?
1 fuse box under the bonnet & another 1 in the passenger cabin.

Yes checked both fuse boxes, swapped relays around as well. No difference.
Pulled the fuel pipe going to the rail off tonight and placed it in a transparent container. When you turn the key to the second position (one after accessories) You can hear the fuel pump priming and you get a few dribbles of fuel through. When you try and crank the engine, nothing comes through at all. It's not long had a new fuel filter so, pump gone?
