Hi all,
Me and my brother was looking over the car earlier, particularly the bad banging from the rear end.
My drivers side rear wheel now hits the inside of the arch and thats with a 10mm wheel spacers fitted! Top lean negative camber. juggling about, we found bouncing the car i.e speed humps the lower torsion bar hits the radius arm on the drivers side, the radius arm also twists and opens the sealed bearing so much so, i can fit the open end of a spanner in the gab between the axle abd the radius arm when its opened up!.
So.. just been pricing up an imaxles refurbed job on ebay at 150.
Are these totly complete ready to fit in place of the old unit? Nothing needs pressing in or other messing around * i know i have to swap shock absorbers over and drums and reconnect handbrake cables but are the axle mounts fitted already To the axle?
i still need to use the car until the axle turns up, got any advice on swapping over?
thanks
Rob

Need wheel bearings .
As the axle wont have them on .
Just knock them on with a socket gently and the put the nut on 200ftlb?. Use a little oil .
Get 13 mm socket and extension ready torques bit E16 for axle bolts .
16 &19 mm socket for the rear brakes.
You will need to remove the old wheel bearings to get the spacers behind . I smashed bearings off with a hammer .They broke & i grinded the rest off . Got the spacers .
Keep tidy the washer on the front & the spacer behind the wheel bearings .
Undo 2 brake line brackets & 2 handbrake cable holders.
Clean all threads on bolts you can on the old axle (wire brush ). Saves them locking up with crud .wd40 helps .

If you have drum brakes you may end up adding the price of a set of drums and bearings. The bearings are held in with a circlip that doesn't have a normal end and is really difficult to remove. Then you may find that even with the clip out (I cut the clip with a dremmel in the end) you still can't remove the bearings without a press.
I think I paid about £80 for the drums and bearings from my local supplier.
Please carefully note how the seals behind the drum fit. It is easy to get them the wrong way around. You should also fit new staked nuts (one each side) that hold the drum on.
As already stated the centre nut on the drum is quite tight and quite large. Make sure you have a socket that will fit properly and a long handled wrench a well as a torque wrench that can be set to 200NM (148ft.lb)
