Hi guys.

Excuse me first of all. I don't own a 206, but a good mate of mine has. I did consider buying one but went into the vauxhall route.

Anyway my mate has a 2001 3 door 206.

Just recently his airbag light has come on. We have read everywhere that a simple plug under the seat could have come undone. Thing is, we can't find any plugs or cables under both the seats. I took the seat out, looked under the carpet and only found the loom but no cables or plugs.

Any ideas?

Do the seats have airbags in the side? What model is it?

Has it been in a crash / bump?

When did the light come on? Has anything different been done or happen to the car leading up to it?

Have the codes been read? I believe pp2000 is needed for airbag faults.

it could be the squib behind the stearing wheel, if you can find the yellow cased wires with yellow plugs they are the ones to check both under the seat and behind the wheel.

if you unplug them (ignition off) use a pice of wire to bridge the wires (loom side) then turn ignition on you can see if the light go's out if it does you have found the fault. but DONT leave it like this as its NOT safe.

Thanks for the reply mate.

It's just a basic model 1.1 , cloth seats, wind down windows and steel wheels and Non airbag seats.

It was in a small collision to the side. It only came on after the panel beater was finished with it.

I wonder if the airbag ECU thinks its been in a crash then? Really we need MR BSI to comment on this one??

WTF Exclamation You don't mess about with the airbags while the battery is connected to the car and you definitely don't start sticking metal on the pins while they are still connected to the battery. Doing this type of thing could result in serious injury or even worse.

As Tolkien said, get it on PP2000 and find the fault properly. When you start pulling at the wires, make sure the car battery is disconnected in the correct sequence, and then allow the car to sit for at least 20 minutes with the battery disconnected to allow any stored power to be discharged from the airbag system. Once the fault has been fixed, reconnect the battery using the correct method.

LOL I missed that suggestion. I was busy in the back garden playing with some dynamite and a grenade or two! Shocked

I still think and airbag going off and frightening the s**t out of you while also breaking something is a huge laugh - NOT.

Sounds like either its fired the seatbelt pretensioners OR more likely the panel beater has accidently knocked the orange connector plug on the seatbelt pretensioner while removing the dents Wink

I remember the early srs systems that used basic mechanical triggers in the ecu's, Rover recalled a load of cars to replace the ecu's because the metal ball inside could trigger the srs system under really hard braking Laughing

if you read what i said you don't "mess" with any airbag you unplug it an then complete the curcuit on the car NOT the airbag using a wire then turn on ignition to check if light gos out. i will give you that i didn't say disconnect battery before you unplug airbag, other than that there is no fault in this method.
yes the best way to find the fault is plug it in an scan for a fault code, but not everyone has the money to do so.

Under the drivers seat there is a plug just dangling, its attached with 3 wires. There are 2 empty plastic ojects stuck under the seat. But no wires coming from them, it looks like the plug could go into one of them, but I don,t see the point, with them being wirless. Can anyone please tell me were to put the little plug

I,ll reset the ecu later, just want to know were the plug fits into. Never had a car with wires under the seat. Looks like a major operation just to take the plugs out on this car.

It fits into a seat harness if you airbags in your seat. Whivh im guessing you dont
