Hello Everyone
Sorry if this topic's already been covered.
Only had one key when I bought my 54 reg last year. Decided I needed a spare, so went to the key cutter. He tested the old in his machine which said something like 'no chip.' He cut me a straight blank.
I thought the car had an immobiliser, but I then tried the old key and realised I could open the door without using the buttons and started the ignition without any problems. The new key opened the door but started the starter motor without the engine kicking in. However, when I started the car with the old key, then immediately tried the new key it worked (and didn't cut out on the way home). Is there some sort of chip reader in the ignition or something?
Love my estate by the way (it's a Tardis in terms of size).
Danny

There is a Thatcham Cat 2 transponder immobiliser fitted as standard in the UK.
Try starting the car with just this new key, make sure the original key isn't anywhere near or inside the car.
Once the engine is started the immobiliser cant & wont stop it, the immobiliser only stops the engine from starting in the first place - software lock on the engine ecu.
