Hi folks! Got a problem with my key. Wont go into the barrell since it gets stucks midway. I suspect its the latch thingy that is refusing to go down to let the key into its place. I basically cannot turn my car on. Had a friend who had this on a Clio last year and a quick solution was to drill the front part of his key out (so as to bypass that damn latch). Would it work?

Now i reckon its just a quick fix but what about long termish? New barrell from pug? I would rather only use one key. I saw a couple of sellers on fleabay selling ignition barrells, door and fuel cap and 2 keys to boot for 50 quid. That a deal?

Car is a preplex 99 1.1 with remote keyfob. Also it doesnt use a coded key if that helps.

This is urgent folks since my car is stuck on the road luckily just in front of my house. Tia.

Lock set is the easiest way if you want to keep it to a single key

Have you had the immobiliser removed? Even if you haven't it's a simple enough fix to swap either the blades over or the internals, including the chip to the new case.

It seems mine doesnt have an immobiliser since my second key from the dealer is just a regular one and it starts the car fine. So a new key set is the way to go then? Is 50 quid a fair price for all of the set?

I will try drilling the spare key tomorrow since i gotta move the car into the garage if i dont want my rims or the entire car stolen! It seems stupid and funny but with the steering lock its impossible to even push the damn car!

Thanks and happy easter folks.

Sure it's not the service key that you have?

Interesting. Mine isn't like this. Now that you said that, I went and checked my remote key and behind a rubber sealing there is a chip that I suspect is the immo chip? How on earth can the second key as you see in it start the car?

Also, this was the link to the complete set I was talking about. So I gather its just a case of drilling a hole into the new key to let it replace the one in the keyfob or am I dreaming awake?

Fleabay key set

I just hope its a replace all easy job one. Thanks folks! Again, happy easter!

Item location Liverpool, but price is in $
Dodgy non OEM parts that may be more trouble than they are worth. Probably made in bulk to the old Ford standard of one key fits all.

Update, the drill trick worked and is now a stop gap solution. Even though the key doesn't go in 100%, I can turn the key and start the car. The keyfob one will not even let me do this so I guess the piece I cut off helped.

Now onto another issue, now even without any key, the wheel lock doesn't engage. I will take the barrel out and bring it to a locksmith and see if they can repair it. He helped a dude who owned a 106 once so maybe...

Which position is the service position? Cause I will need to know that before I try and get the barrel out.

Thanks for your solutions guys, keep em coming.

@Macca, what alternative do you have in mind? I will contact the dealership tomorrow and check how much a new barrel costs or if they even stock it. Otherwise a second hand one with keys, fuel cap and doors? Where I am from, I am pretty limited. 206's can't be seen for miles! Hence why I went to Fleabay.

@MrBSI I think the graphite might have helped if it was in the middle. As it is, its the forward tip that does not want to go in, so it might be a bit tricky. Any other ideas? It was on its way out and I sprayed WD40 and surprise surprise, it stopped going in altogether!

Update, the problem is now solved. Ordered a new barrell from the dealership. So no need to get a complete set.
