Hi there. Hope you can help!

I have a 2002 206 gti. My engine cooling fan stopped working and with help from posts I 'd read on here, we diagnosed and fixed the problem which was a corroded wire in the little green box. Excuse my techy terms Very Happy

The fan now clicks on as the temp reaches the next marker after 90. I have noticed though that the fan is not coming on when the air con is turned on and I cant hear those clicking noises that I used to hear.

Did we miss something in the green box, or is this something else? My dad did test the resistors which were good.

Thanks for any suggestions you may be able to give Very Happy

Thanks for the reply Smile We didn't do that, wouldn't know how to.

From what I can gather, my fan has 2 speeds. Low speed should come on when air con is on which it is not. High speed should come on when engine is getting hot, which it does. So it appears my fan is only half working Confused

sorry misread your earlier post thinking fan only clicka and never actually spins . Clicks are the green boxes = relays, there should be two - one for high, another for low speed

Thanks again. We only found one corroded wire in green boxes, which was repaired and now the fan works on high speed. Didn't see any other problems :/

Can you tell me where the green box is or point me to a photo. I am having a similar problem where my fan isn't coming on at all and ill try doing this if I can find it.

We changed the thermostat, and sensor unit but the fan doesnt function properly. The temp is staying around 90 and the temp used to be around 80 most the time. The fan used to kick in at 85 or 90 low speed and higher speed when in traffic. It doesnt appear to come on at all now.

Thanks Smile I'm sorry if I sound dim but could you elaborate a little please? Did we put the relays back in the wrong places? I guess I am just not understanding how it would make a difference as there didn't appear to be a right/wrong way for them to go back in. I am by no means questioning you, I would just like to try and understand what we did wrong :/ Thanks again Smile

One of the relays might be gone. If that's true, then if you swap them around, you should lose fan at one speed and gain another instead, and vice versa

Thank you's for the help with this. The fans are now functioning, for the most part.

I have one last question.

The fan does not come on when I turn the A/C on. I haven't had the system re gased for years at least. I have it booked in on tuesday for a service and re gas. I've tried to find some info and from what I have read is the air con wont engage if it is empty. Am I correct in coming to this conclusion and would this in turn cause the fan to not come on or is there a bigger problem with the air/con (such as something mechanical)?

Thanks again Smile

I thought the fan comes on at low speed also when engine gets hot (and switches to high speed when engine gets really hot Smile )
Could someone confirm?

Could someone confirm?

My low speed fan comes on just before the next marker after 90. The high speed fan comes on at the marker after that.

It is my understanding that the low speed fan should also come on around 20 seconds after the A/C is turned on (I read this somewhere so may be wrong) which it does not.

It's doing my head in, these fans. Just want to be sure now that they are fixed, that they are working correctly Smile
