Hi all,

My brother swears by this site so I thought I would give it a go!

My little 206 seems to have a problem. At low revs/standstill its really juddering (I feel like i'm in a washing machine!) and it's lost all power when going up the smallest incline. This problem seems to have appear overnight.

Its been squeaking from the front right hand side for ages but I was just hoping that was the fan belt (and not the alternator or the water pump) and, typically, was going to get the fan belt changed this weekend. I don't know if they are related issues or not.

Any help would be much appreciated!!

Thanks
Bex

If it is anything like the one I got some clown had fitted NGK brand spark plugs which are a bad combination with the coil pack (Bougicord brand) and ECU (Magnetti Marelli) combination. I replaced my set of plugs with Bosch as recommended by many 206 owners and driveability at idle revs has improved massively. The car seems far less sensitive trying to move under just clutch control as a result. Used to be ridiculously easy to stall, but is far more resilient now.

Other cheap fixes you can try to improve engine response and performance are changing the air filter, fuel filter (about £5 each from places like Euro Car Parts), and adding some Redex to the fuel tank to help clean out the injection system. Well worth looking at the throttle cable in the engine bay too as there may be excess slack which will limit the full throttle position and acceleration. Pretty easy to adjust; tons of forums or YouTube videos for that kind of thing.
