Just wondering, is there an easy way to tell if the rear axle on my SW has failed?

I have had the wheel bearings on it changed as I was told they were failing, but now its rumbling a bit (not sure if its from the front or rear) and it makes a "bang" when the rear end goes over a bump.

The wheels are also leaning in a bit, not enough to touch the bodywork but enough so you can see them leaning inward when you stand behind the car.

The car itself is just over 100K (100,076 atm to be precise) and i think it spent the beginning few years of its life down near the coast as the 'plates have the name of a Pug dealership in Barnstaple on them.

Jack the car up and see if you have any play in the rear arms.
If it goes bang/ting when you Jack it up & you find no play.
Tighten the arb (anti-roll-bar)one 13mm bolt either side tight as. Hit the arb end plates hard with a hammer on the arm before you tighten it up.

Check nothing is knocking like the exhaust on the torsion bars or rear shock or under the car.
The leaning is called camber ; )

If it aint broke dont fix it !

I will give that a try, thanks! Jack the entire rear end up or do it one side at a time?

I was a bit suspicious as I was told that my car needed a new rear axle as it wouldn't pass its MOT and the repair would cost £1,500+.
So , I took it to another garage and yes, it did fail, but not on the rear axle (nothing wrong with it that would cause it to fail an MOT apparently), it had to have some welding done on the exhaust as there was a crack - wasn't told there was anything wrong with the exhaust by the first garage!!!!!!

I had my first car (a 205 GR) lowered and it never seemed to have any camber or at least not noticeably and it did have larger alloys. To me it almost looks as if the SW has been lowered already even though I am guessing from the ride height that it hasn't been.
