Hi, welcome your thoughts on problems with my 1.4 16v petrol, for the last few mounths on start up the starter moter seems to have a delayed start witch corresponds with a voltage drop all the dials on the dash drop to zero, then the car starts as normal.
The other day this happened and the yellow engine light started flashing and the engine is either running on limp mode or running so ruff it's lost power.
I read the fault code 1336 witch seemed to be most commonly the Coil pack witch I've changed plus reset the BSI.
There is a smell of unburnt fuel well running and the centre console says cat fult and immisstions. I'm going to change the plugs, then perhaps the cam and crankshaft censors, but can't help thinking in the back of my mind that it might be the voltage drop that has upset the electronics!

Could be something as simple as the battery. Does it run OK once warm?

I changed coil pack and runs ok, waring lights still on though,
I've cleaned all the earth's on battery and starter. It just seems to have this hesitation and voltage drop when you turn the key.
But battery seems fine, alternator is making 16v witch seems rather excessive to.

It is excessive and will in time, if it hasn't already, shorten the life of the battery.
Unless in very cold climate, 14.4V is the upper charging voltage most 'maintenance free' batteries will specify/accept before the do start to boil off water. It may look sealed, but typically there are openings under panels and stickers - at the very least a vent valve to prevent build-up of pressure.
Can you see the voltage as you crank? Best is actually an analog meter, as the digital ones aren't continuous, and have a limited sample/display update rate. If not, I'd say have the battery load tested.

Yes can see where your coming from, unfortunately I only have a digital meter. Just seems strange there is the couple of seconds delay before the starter cuts in when the dash loses power. Not sure whether to try new starter, alternator, or battery next .

If you've got (or can borrow) starter cables and can get access to another car for a few minutes, parallel'ing in the other car (not running) to yours and see how it behaves with a presumably known good battery attached would be the quickest and cheapest way to try another battery...
