Hi all,

Hoping you can help me. Have a 206, 2000, 1340cc, Manual and Petrol.

Had some major issues with the vehicle, initial symptoms were it was running really flat, huge loss of power. That quickly deteriorated into it not running at all.

A brief history of the vehicle if it helps:

A year prior the head gasket went and cracked the cylinder head. So we replaced that along with the timing belt etc.

Been through a variety of options to try and get it running again with no luck at all.

Have a couple of error codes for it:

P0716
P070E

We have replaced the Idle speed sensor
The plugs and coil pack
Made sure that the timing belt hadn't slipped with the prior work that had been done.
Did a compression test on the cylinders and compression was extremely low. In the 80's if my memory serves me right. Led us to believe the head had gone again, but was not the case

Replacing the coil pack and idle speed sensor got it running again for a few days but it was still flat with no power and then deteriorated back to not starting.

Our family friend is a mechanic and has been working on it for us, and is now convinced that the ECU is shot and needs to be replaced. I have general mechanical knowledge so please bear with me if I ask what may be pointless questions or have provided unnecessary info Smile

Thank you for all your help, much appreciated Smile

Kevin

Has your mechanic friend researched what the codes mean?

P0716 - Transmission Input/Turbine Speed Sensor Circuit Range/Performance
P070E - Transmission Fluid Level Sensor Circuit intermittent/Erratic

I'm guessing a generic code reader has been used. Not really much good on a vehicle that wasn't E-OBD compliant until 2001, which could be why the codes make no sense.
Find someone with PP2000 and see what that throws up before you throw any more money at it.

When you replaced the head, was it with a reconditioned one or one from a scrapyard? Possible that the head you fitted is warped, valves are pitted or just poor valve clearances.

Hi Macca,

Thanks for your reply.

We got a reconditioned head put in from Peugeot, they tested it before hand. They came in and then did the code reads for us with a MaxiDiagPro MD801, this is foreign territory to me so I'm out of my depth with these. The codes they gave us reported back as

P0716 - Control Unit (ECU), Knock Module Open/Short Circuit to Earth
P070E - Control Unit (ECU), Shunt Enable Open/Short Circuit to Earth.

With the codes you gave us, I spoke to our friend and he said that he replaced one of the transmission sensors. I still have all the parts, is there any way of attaching photos of the parts changed in a thread?

Thank you for all your help so far, I really appreciate it Smile
