Hi everyone I'm new to this forum your help would be appreciated. My 206 sw {2004} has suffered this problem twice now. The engine temp gauge has suddenly shot into the red from normal running temp of 70-90. On opening the bonnet the rad is cool the pipes are cool and the block is not excessively hot. Plenty of water oil etc.

Wiring issue? Possibly a short circuit to ground or feed, or maybe a broken connection, causing the computer to read it as maxed out...
Could be the sensor itself. Or the gauge...
Does it persist? Do you get the STOP or EML light?

It could be a sticking thermostat. The rad and pipes will be cool and the engine hot if the stat intermittently sticks closed.
