Purchased a 2002 206 1.4 Look the other day, started fine on test drive and the day after when collecting (private sale).
Left it on the drive for a week waiting for the doc's to come through etc. I noticed the two buttons on the key job at broken away and missing I could see the chip inside so I purchased a new key off ebay (cover and buttons only). When it came I swapped it over there's was a battery already inside, zapped the unlock button and it all unlocked, but I noticed the lock button still wasn't working - took it all apart again on the little switch that sits on the chip inside was missing completely, snapped off.
The car still locks with the key and unlocks, the ignition lights all the dash up and the car turns over but doesn't fire, it's like there's no fuel (just under 1/4 tank) or the immobiliser is still active. Sure I can hear the fuel pump.
I read on another forum the car should beep to say the key is in the ignition with the door open, mine doesn't do this. Is this part of my problem?

By chip are you referring to the circuit board?
Common problem for the switches to break and kits are available online to repair them for anyone who is handy with a soldering iron.
When you took the old fob apart there should have been an immobiliser chip in it which is separate to the circuit board. This is usually tucked into the corner of the case. If you haven't transferred this, then the car won't start. If you have binned the old case and left the chip in it, then you need to buy a virgin chip and have it coded to the car using PP2000 and the alpha numeric security code.

Reasonable price for the chip, I used to charge £5 for one
If you have the security code, normally on a card with the service book, then anyone with PP2000 can do it for you. Many members have it it's just finding one near to where you live (click here) who is willing to accept some beer tokens.
If you don't have the code, Timon can get it for you or any Peugeot dealer if you take in proof of identity and proof of ownership. Some supply it for free, some charge around £30.
Another option is to go to the dealer and ask them to supply and code a chip. No idea how much it would cost but I would have thought it would be around the £80 mark.
