Hi

I have recently purchased a 1.4 diesel 53 plate.

It starts first turn of the key and runs like a beauty until I Leave it parked up for a few days!

Then It starts, revs, then stalls and will not start again until I have pumped the bubble valve under the bonnet to the left top of engine many many times.I notice that there seem to be a lot of bubbles in the fuel on the output of the hand primer (bubble) as the pipe is see through.I can also hear lots of glugging and squirting sounds from the top of the engine (although I am refilling the whole fuel system). The car then starts and runs like a dream again.

It's great exercise but most inconvenient!

Is there some sort of non return valve that could have failed so the fuel is draining back to the tank?

I have removed the pipe from the outflow of the filter and fuel shoots out when I turn the engine over so I presume it's not a blocked fuel filter.

Would appreciate any ideas

Worth checking the fuel lines under the air box for signs of rubbing. These wear through and then allow air into the system

I've left mine for weeks and it starts first time and no air bubbles ... Or pumping. Only had to do that once when I ran out .. Sad

Yea thanks peeps as I suspected I have a lot of checking of pipes to do.
Think it would also be prudent to change the fuel filter.
Does this model have a pump in the fuel tank or is fuel sucked from the engine?
Found a very similar problem on this site.

Peugeot 1.4 hdi fuel problems.
Honestjohn.co.uk

As I have been pulling pipes off to check for fuel flow there is a good possibility one of these joints is leaking.
I have a really good idea.clamp one end of the pipe at tank end and use a gas psessure tester to pump the pipe up and see if the reading drops.just like when plumbers test gas pipes.

Any thoughts on this idea please?

Many thanks

Haynes says there is no lift pump on the 1.4 hdi but there is on the 2.0 hdi. That's pretty much all it has on the topic.

And I like the pressure test idea. I'm the sort of guy who pressure tests everything and spends hours trying to find these miniscule leaks. If you can clamp off certain areas at a time then you should find the leak in no time at all.

Best of luck to you
