I've pulled the whole bit off to shorten the shaft and that didn't happen but i'd imagine a good bit of super glue would do the trick

Yeah, I tried to rotate it... bad habit
Yep, I'm thinking about super glue, too.
So whats under that white thing?

Not threads. The plastic is either cast or pressed on. There's , IIRC (it was a while ago...), a series 0f groves/bumps on the metal shaft for the plastic to grip.
Couldn't shift it the slightest until I used an utility knife to repeatedly score a line parallel with the shaft until I got down to the metal, releasing the pressure/grip, and could then peel/pull off the plastic.
Shortened the metal rod and stuck the plastic bit back on with some 2-component epoxy glue. (Still there 12 years later)

I glued it very easy.
Now I'm just thinking of shorting the gears.
Whats better, cutting the top of it or adding extra pieces on the bottom?
